interpol * our love to admire

while waiting for the new Interpol album that will hopefully be released this year, this post will review their album from 2007, which, in my opinion is their greatest.
the thing I love most about Interpol is their post punk sound and the fact they took it to another level, creating a style of their own. also, their omnipresent reverberated guitar textures are amazing and have always kept me hooked on "Our love to admire".
the tracks form a continuous and complete album which stands out among their other work.

>> laura recommends:
1. no I in threesome
2. pioneer to the falls
3. the scale
4. rest my chemistry

the lyrics are also very sharp and expose various themes specific to the post-punk style, but combined with the instrumentals, the result is not as depressing as one would think. it's strong material that will give you a different state of mind than other similar bands.
although some might say that their songs are too much alike, i think each song stands out with some unique element, be it lyrics, instrumentals, or the general feel of it.
for example, no I in threesome is clearly genius because of its lyrics. they're the first to capture the attention of the listener. after they have sunken in, you realize that there's more to this track.
pioneer to the falls hypnotizes me with it's continuous guitar line and the fact that it is masterfully composed of several "parts" which are determined by the different instrumental patterns, vocal solos and the mood that is inflicted by the general feel of the track.
the scale has this peculiar rhythm that can be heard in the drums, guitars and vocal performance which combine to form a perfect track.
the tired and weary beat in rest my chemistry skillfully accompanies the lyrics and strengthens their meaning, making it as clear as possible for anyone what the song is about.
there is definitely more to say about Interpol, but I'm finding it pretty hard to describe their style and their music, because few words can describe the feel you get when you listen to them.
it takes a while to really discover their essence.
